Compton Allotments have been undergoing a revival.
Not only do we have a beautifully situated site in
the countryside but all these benefits too:
-
Great easy to work soil.
-
Very secure with full deer fencing.
-
Water standpipes.
- Good value rents.
-
A thriving community and association
who are keen to welcome you.
We
have plans for community storage and facilities to
encourage families and those who are less able, so
if you are interested in how you, friends or others
in the community can benefit, phone David on 01483-812014
for details.
Current
charges for the season 2005/06 are:
The
cost of a five rod plot is five pounds plus a charge
of five pounds per year towards cutting of grass in
communal areas and seven pounds towards water. There
is also a refundable deposit that is taken to ensure
that the plot is returned in a good condition(see
contract for details). Plots can be taken on in a
'natural state' or for a charge in a more prepared
state.
You
will be required to sign a full tennancy agreement
which is explained below:
COMPTON ALLOTMENT ASSOCIATION
Your Tenancy Agreement Explained
The
first part of your Tenancy Agreement tells you:
- How much your rent is and when it is paid.
-
Conditions for having your allotment garden.
These
are meant to help you garden sensibly and safely,
showing care for those around you. (Please ensure
you have read the full tenancy agreement).
The main points are:
-
You may grow fruit, vegetables, and flowers, have
a lawn or a play area for your children on your allotment
garden. You are expected to care for all of your allotment
garden, not just part of it and let the rest grow
weedy.
-
You do not bring onto your allotment garden any harmful
things such as banned chemicals, asbestos, builders?
rubble, man made carpets that do not rot away etc.
-
You keep the soil free from harmful things such as
glass, plastic waste, builder's rubble etc.
- You show care and consideration to other allotment
users and the people around the allotment site. This
means that you do not do things that may upset people
around you e.g. have a smouldering, smoky bonfire,
play music loudly, let your dog bark or walk onto
neighbour's allotment gardens. When siting trees or
structures please don't overshadow your neighbour's
ground. It is also important to remember that you
can only use legally accepted chemicals and ensure
that if your spraying the chemicals do not drift onto
neighbours or communal areas.
- With written permission you can only keep pigeons,
ducks, geese, hens, rabbits and bees on your allotment
garden and only if you maintain high welfare standards.
You cannot keep cockerels, they cause complaints.
-
You are responsible for the boundaries of your allotment
garden.
-
Fences and hedges need to be kept to a height of 1.5
metres. This means
-
Keeping fences well maintained and cutting both sides
of your hedge.
-
You are responsible for cutting your half of the grass
path running beside your allotment garden, unless
it is a path that the cut.
-
You are responsible for any structure on your allotment
garden. You can remove it when you leave your allotment
garden, or pass it on to the next tenant. You are
responsible for keeping any structures safe and well
maintained.
- You may use the taps for filling up watering cans
and water butts, not for sprinklers and hoses. We
need to use water wisely to protect our environment
-
You may stop on the central track to drop-off or pick-up
tools / produce etc. but then please move to the car
park area provided.
-
When you decide to give up your Tenancy Agreement
you write to the Secretary 4 weeks before you want
your Tenancy Agreement to end. It would be good to
let your area representative know too.
-
You need to let the Secretary know if any contact
details change.
-
You agree to pay a deposit for your allotment garden.
This is returned to you if your allotment garden is
left in good condition. If the allotment garden is
left overgrown, or with rubbish, and needs to be cleared,
then the deposit is kept and put towards the cost
of this work.
The
management team
-
The management team consists of the chairman, secretary,
treasurer and three area reps.(who are responsible
for the Withies end, Spiceall end and middle).
-
The management team is responsible for the day to
day running of each site. This covers the maintenance
of each site and any problems that may arise on a
site.
- The Management team is also responsible for promoting
and developing allotment gardening but we can?t do
this without your help too.
In
the first instance it is always best to contact your
area rep. If:
-
There is a problem on your site e.g. a tap is not
working
- You would like to find out more about tenants? meetings
or allotment association
- You need information, or have any concerns regarding
allotment gardening
- You are unable to cultivate your allotment garden
due to illness, or personal circumstances and wish
to continue renting your allotment garden
- You wish to give up your plot or have a friend who
would like one.
